Choctawâs Chief of Police Kelly Marshall was nominated by a Service member also employed by the Police Department for her distinguished efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide range of measures, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed. Patriot Awards are awarded to the individual supervisor, not a staff or organization, and must be nominated by the individual directly affected who is an employee also serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or their spouse. Of the tens of thousands who find themselves serving and employed across the state, only about 100 supervisors were nominated. We are proud to congratulate and celebrate this type of award especially because it also conveys the type of excellence necessary to cultivate a great employee and a great work environment. Service members have heard the mantra that a military family is strong together, which often means ensuring your soldiers are not only physically and mentally prepared, but that their family is also prepared and taken care of.
ESGR, or Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, is a Department of Defense office established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employeeâs military commitment. Employer support enhances retention rates in the Armed Forces and, in the end, strengthens our national security. To recognize employers who support their Guard and Reserve employees, ESGR grants a series of Department of Defense awards. The Service Member Patriot Award is the first in a series of progressive awards given by the ESGR. Congratulations Kelly Marshall, City of Choctaw Chief of Police!
