The In-Season tournament Championships at Bouse this week showcases our 4U division… three of the four remaining teams fighting for a championship consist of all Choctaw area kids and those teams have gone on to have tremendous success despite not knowing each other six months ago! These teams have grown close and became leaders in their division, we look forward to seeing them play for multiple years to come!

Due to the possibility of severe damaging storms throughout the metro and in the safety of our staff (many live in different cities) and the citizens of Choctaw we will be closing city offices at 4pm today, May 6 to give everyone an opportunity to safely get home with their families. We appreciate your understanding and support in this decision. In the meantime, please stay updated on the weather throughout the day and ensure you have a safety plan in place. Update from the US National Weather Service Norman Oklahoma 1045am - we just did a briefing for close to 400 of our emergency management and television partners. We thought it would be good to share some of the key point we discussed with them. - DO NOT FOCUS ON THE RISK CATEGORIES! It does not matter what category, color or number area you are in today. EVERY storm will be equally capable of producing dangerous tornadoes and destructive hail. - Many (most?) people will NOT see any storms at all! We are only expecting a small number of storms. We could have 2-3, we could have 10. The thing to remember is if you see a storm near you, assume it's a dangerous storm. - We have not experienced a day like this in quite some time. We expect storms to become supercells quickly after they form, and they should remain supercells through the event. We do not expect them to form into a squall line or cluster. - The potential for tornadoes will INCREASE after dark, so do not let your guard down. Wind shear - which is already plenty for tornadoes this afternoon - will only become more favorable after dark. This is important! - Clouds will NOT prevent storms from forming today or lessen their severity. - The cap (a layer of warm air above the surface) will NOT prevent storms from forming today. - The timing graphic has our best analysis of when we think severe storms are most likely in your area. Please use this as a tool to help you make decisions about closings, cancellations, etc. Call us if you need more specific guidance. REMEMBER - many locations won't see a storm, but if you do, it will be bad. Watch for further updates through the day.

As severe weather season approaches, it's crucial to ensure your safety and preparedness. Have you registered your storm shelter yet? Registering your storm shelter enables the fire department to locate you and your loved ones in case of an emergency. For all new storm shelters, permit applications are free of charge. The Planning Commission Board of the City of Choctaw is currently accepting applications for an opening on the board. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the community and help shape the future development of our city. The board plays a crucial role in reviewing and making recommendations on development proposals, zoning changes, and other planning issues. The position is not ward specific and we are seeking a candidate with prior experience in planning, engineering, construction, development, or other related fields.
