The proposed ¾-cent dedicated City sales tax would be collected on taxable purchases and used only for the projects approved by voters. The proposal has a maximum term of 20 years and would not be a permanent sales tax increase.
For every $100 in taxable purchases, 75 cents would be dedicated to the voter-approved project fund while the tax is in effect. Revenue generated by the sales tax would be restricted to the approved projects and could not be used for unrelated City expenses.
Choctaw does not receive City property tax revenue for municipal operations. Sales tax is the City’s primary source of local revenue for capital improvement projects.

Learn More About the Proposed Fire Apparatus Upgrades
One of the projects included in the proposed ¾-cent dedicated city sales tax is funding for new fire apparatus and equipment. Fire apparatus play a critical role in emergency response, fire suppression, and maintaining the department's ability to serve the community.
The proposed apparatus upgrades would increase water tank capacity from 500 gallons to 1,000 gallons and increase pumping capacity from 200 gallons per minute to 1,500 gallons per minute. The new apparatus is designed to function as both a tanker and an engine for fire suppression operations. The proposal also includes equipment updates to meet current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. These improvements may also support the City's Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating by increasing water capacity, pumping capability, and equipment carried on the apparatus.

What Would the Proposed Sales Tax Fund?
If approved by voters, the proposed ¾-cent dedicated city sales tax would fund three specific community projects. Revenue generated by the sales tax would be restricted to these voter-approved purposes:

The Choctaw Police Department currently operates in a facility with limited space for daily operations. The proposed police station would provide additional room for evidence storage, secure processing areas, staff workspaces, improved public access, and a dedicated Animal Control holding facility. The goal is to provide a facility designed to support current operations and accommodate future community needs.
