OPERATION CHOCTAW CARES
We have troops overseas fighting and supporting our country and I’ll be honest… the troops have been weighing heavy on my mind lately.
Right now, they need our support, not opinions, not debates……………just support!
I know it’s always nice to receive items even things we tend to take for granted while home, so I am starting Operation Choctaw Cares for the month of April.
This will be to collect the items listed below and as much as we can to send to our troops right here at Tinker and ultimately overseas.
You can drop items off at:
- Choctaw City Hall 8-4:30 M-Th, 8-11 F
- Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce 8-4 M-F
I am also coordinating with Tinker senior leadership to make sure these items get directly into the hands of our deployed heroes
Immediate needs include (provided by AF):
- Hand soap
- Bar soap (Dove, Irish Spring, etc.)
- Hand sanitizer
- Deodorant
- Body lotion
- Powdered laundry detergent
- Female hygiene products (pads, tampons, wipes)
- Towels, loofahs, shower shoes
- Sunscreen
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Body wipes & face wipes
- Floss & toothpaste
- Instant or ground coffee
- Jerky, snacks, gum, candy
- Board games, card games, decks of cards
- Powdered drink mixes / energy packets (Mio, etc.)
- Liquid IV / electrolyte packets
- Energy / protein bars
It doesn’t have to be anything big. Even something small can make a difference on a long day far from home.
I was with the 31st MEU in 2004. I’ve seen what it means when something from home shows up—it sticks with you. It reminds you you’re not alone.
No matter where you stand on anything else… I hope we can come together on this.
Let’s please come together and collect as much as we can to send over! I will be working directly with contacts on base to ensure timing on shipping.

The fire department is testing fire hydrants between Hiwassee and Henney today. You may notice low water pressure in the area for a short time.
Summer Music Series??? Would you attend?
When we asked for bands for Friday Nights in the Park, we had an amazing response—so many bands wanted to play that not everyone made the schedule! We would like to give up-and-coming/ garage bands a place to perform, but we need to know if the community would attend.
If there’s interest, we’re considering having bands play on the Farmers Market stage at Choctaw Creek Park one Saturday evening each month (June–August), plus an all-day Music Showcase in September!

The Annual City-Wide Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Complete this form if you would like to register your sale and have your address featured on a map and posted on the City Garage Sale page. Entries are due by April 20th. While sign up is free, if you would like to purchase signs or additional days for that weekend, please stop by the Annex or fill out a permit on the portal to complete your sale. 🚧 Trash Service Update for Residents on Apache, Shelby, and Lynn Streets 🚧
Tomorrow, Friday the 13th, trash pickup will proceed as usual for residents on Apache, Shelby, and Lynn Streets. Please make sure your polycarts are placed at the end of your driveway for collection.
If Waste Connections is unable to reach your cart due to road construction, they will make note of the address and the residents at those addresses will be allowed to place extra bags outside of their carts during next week’s pickup.
Thank you for your patience while construction work continues in the area.

The City of Choctaw Blood Drive will be held on March 27, 2026, from 7:30- 11:30 AM. The blood drive is open to all eligible donors in the community. You can book an appointment time at the link below.

Calling for Photos –Choctaw Rock Island Caboose/ 1976 Bicentennial Celebration
The City is working on a project to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Rock Island Caboose in Choctaw.
If you have photos of the caboose being moved into Choctaw or pictures of the caboose during the 1976 restoration or work being done on it, we would love for the community to send us digital copies of them.
We would also be interested in receiving photos from the 1976 Bicentennial celebration, including the Bicentennial Parade or the picnic at Ten Acre Lake Park.

Thank you to all that signed up to attend the upcoming 2026 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. Registration for the event is closed. For those signed up, the event will be held on Saturday, March 21st between 9am-12pm under the Choctaw Creek Park big pavilion. There are no scheduled slots, so you may arrive at your convenience. All you will need to bring is your driver’s license and a copy of your most recent city utility bill.
