Upcoming Municipal Election – November 18, 2025

The City of Choctaw will hold a special election on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, for voters to consider two ballot propositions.

Proposition One – Term Limits for Mayor and City Council

Voters will decide whether to establish formal term limits for the offices of Mayor and City Council.

If approved, both the Mayor and City Councilmembers would be limited to three four-year terms each.
A person could serve up to three terms as a City Councilmember and three terms as Mayor.

Currently, there are no limits on the number of terms an individual may serve.

Proposition Two – Sale of Optimist Park

This proposition asks voters to authorize the City of Choctaw to sell the property currently operated as Optimist Park.

Over the past several decades, Optimist Park, which is a little over 3 acres in size, has seen a significant decline in use. The lower portion of the park—historically used for baseball, softball, and tee-ball practice—lies within a floodplain, leaving it marshy and unusable for long periods after heavy rainfall.

Due to these challenges and limited activity at the park, the City Council is proposing to sell Optimist Park.
If approved by voters in the November 18 election, proceeds from the sale would be used to fund improvements at Choctaw Creek Park and/or Ten Acre Lake Park—two parks that continue to serve the community regularly.

Residents will have the opportunity to vote on this proposal and help shape the future of Choctaw’s public park spaces.

Polling places will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
Information about absentee and early voting is available through the Oklahoma County Election Board.

The City of Choctaw encourages all registered voters to participate and make their voices heard on November 18!

Choctaw Creek Park Update: Highland Gathering This Weekend

The United Scottish Clans of Oklahoma will be hosting the Highland Gathering this weekend at Choctaw Creek Park.

📆 Event Setup Begins: Wednesday, October 8
🎉 Festival Dates: Friday October 10 through Sunday, October 12

🚧 Park Access Notice:
Please be aware that parts of the park will be blocked off for the event, including:

Portions of the walking trails on the west and north sides of the pond

The large pavilion and surrounding areas

We understand this may be an inconvenience for our regular park walkers. As an alternative, we suggest using the trail at Ten Acre Lake during the festival.

✨ While it may temporarily impact park access, this is a fantastic community event featuring food, music, drinks, athletic competitions, and unique vendor booths — we hope you’ll come out and enjoy all the fun!

PLEASE NOTE: Friday Nights in the Park is canceled this week. Friday Night is free admission at the Highland Gathering. We are encouraging all of our Friday Nights in the Park Regulars to attend the Gathering, which is at the Big Pavilion. They have vendors, Music and Food Trucks!
