The City of Choctaw Development Services staff want to hear from Choctaw residents! Staff is working on updating the zoning codes and animal regulations, specifically regarding the definition of a Kennel, to better reflect and protect our community. The survey, found in the below link, is estimated to take two (2) minutes and will help city staff gather pertinent information about our residents and draft code updates accordingly. Staff will review submissions and make recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council based upon survey results and the practices of surrounding cities. For those who do not have access to social media, a survey will be sent out in the May newsletter and can be dropped off in the utility billing Dropbox or in person in the Development Services Department. Surveys are also available for residents at City Hall. The survey will close May 12th, 2023 at 11:45 pm and no further responses will be accepted. A Public Hearing will be held by the Planning Commission and City Council once staff has concluded their findings. The date for the Public Hearing will be published in the Choctaw Times. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VGYKNXJ The current definition of Kennel is located in Part 4, Animal Regulations, Section 4-101(K) and states the following: “Kennel” means any premise where there is being maintained or harbored a total of four (4) or more dogs, except veterinary hospitals. You can view the full text of Part 4 at the following: https://www.mychoctaw.org/page/choctaw-code-of-ordinance

The City of Choctaw continues to work diligently to identify the location and cause for the disruption of service to water utility customers. This outage is affecting most of the city of Choctaw. Crews will continue to work through the night until water service is restored. Customers may experience intermittent service during the repairs. We are currently inspecting each water well and ask that citizens refrain from large water usages in areas with low pressure, so we can identify and focus our inspection in those areas. We ask citizens to call our after-hours emergency line at 405-520-8912 or 405-520-8911 to report any visible major water leaks or pooled water that might facilitate our search. Please do not call this number to report water outage or to ask for a status update as this will impede our water crew from continuing their inspections. Updates on the repair status will be posted to our City of Choctaw App, our Facebook page and website at mychoctaw.org. The City of Choctaw takes this interruption in service very seriously and will not rest until we have resolved the issue and restored service to our customers. Please keep in mind, once service is restored, pressure will continue to be lower than normal. Citizens are encouraged to limit water usage until such time as water pressure is restored. Respectfully, Brian E. Linley

Your Water Usage, Online! The City is currently in the process of upgrading our infrastructure by replacing our water meters with new Smart meters. These new meters transmit readings daily and provide a more detailed picture of water usage and possible leak issues. In addition to being able to pinpoint when a leak started, these new meters can show how much water is used in household use and irrigation. As we work to install these meters across the City, we will be reaching out to account holders as their meters are installed to give them the log-in information they will need to access their readings online. For more information please contact Utility Billing at 405-390-8198.

SPRING STORM WATER QUALITY TIPS - If you apply too many lawn fertilizers or pesticides, especially before a heavy rain storm, a lot of it may be washed into nearby storm drains and then our waterways and water bodies without treatment. Fertilizers promote growth and decay of algae that use up oxygen in the water, fish need oxygen to survive. Pesticides in stormwater runoff directly affect the health of aquatic organisms and human health if ingested. Sweep excess fertilizers off of pavement and concrete so they can’t wash in to our streams and rivers and use pesticides at the amount recommended by the manufacturer.
